In May, 2002, the "Light in the dark" radio program was created to be broadcast on the Radio Rebelde national station on Sunday night from 10:30 pm to 12: 00 pm. Through a message of love and solidarity, the program has the honorable task to make the truth known about the Cuban Five antiterrorists unjustly prisoners in the United States. For having fulfilled honorably a professional and ethical duty, constituting an example of current journalism in the country, "Light in the dark" has received Dignity Award by the of Journalists of Cuba (UPEC), which recently held the Press Day in Cuba.
The Distinction was given at the Jose Marti Anti-Imperialist Tribune, an ideal place that involves patriotism, nobility, vocation for justice and the optimism in the triumph which daily lifts the Five Heroes, and which the producers of the radio program represented by Arleen Rodriguez, Angelica Paredes and Demetrius Villaurrutia broadcast with deep and fresh pride.
With a call to support the campaign for the release of political prisoners in the U.S., the Occupy Wall Street movement (OWS) today also supported the cause of the Five Cubans imprisoned in that country.
Members of Occupy Oakland, California, one of a group of branches spread throughout the nation, called for a National Day of Occupation for Prisoners on Monday, February 20, near San Quentin prison, north of San Francisco.
On February 14 the Radio Rebelde national station broadcast a special program dedicated to Antonio (Tony) Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez, Rene Gonzalez, Ramon Labañino, four of the Five Cubans imprisoned in the United States for fighting against terrorism. The Cuban people had the opportunity to listen to the voices of these anti-terrorists during the broadcast. This way, a bridge of love between the Cuban anti-terrorists and their relatives and the island was built.
