The group Intellectuals for the Cuban Five was created in Peru to struggle for the release of the five Cuban antiterrorists incarcerated in the United States since 1998.
Poets Arturo Corcuera and Reinaldo Naranjo are the founders of the group, which is also composed of painters Fanny Palacios and Bruno Portuguez and singer-songwriter Marcela Pérez Silva.
The idea is to foster a larger participation of writers, poets, painters, musicians and other culture workers for tasks in solidarity with The Five, the Prensa Latina news agency reported.
The group is now preparing a program of activities, which includes a painting exhibition starting from February 5, the day of the world campaign in solidarity with these patriots.
The members of the new group signed the call addressed to intellectuals in the United States so they join the international campaign demanding President Barack Obama the release of Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Fernando Gonzalez, Antonio Guerrero and Rene Gonzalez.
