“The situation of the five Cuban prisoners in the United States is a problem that concerns all of us”, stated the Nobel Peace Prize Winner, Rigoberta Menchu at the San Carlos de la Cabaña Fortress. In a meeting with the participants in the 20th Havana International Book Fair, the Guatemalan social fighter explained that her books for children, one of which will be published recently in Cuba, come from Maya culture.
Rigoberta Menchu, whose Mayan name is Li Min stated that the world is going though a situation of global disorder, because of the imbalance in the three dimension of man according to the quiche conception: the spiritual, material and social branches.
In the venue of the Book Fair and in the ceremony where the historical critic’s awards were announced. The National History Award 2010 for the Lifetime Achievement was given to Dr. Pedro Pablo Rodriguez, who had been previously awarded with the Social Sciences distinction.
In the Meeting of Editors of children’s books parallel to the Book Fair the exhibition by Fernando Carr Paruas the National Edition Award Winner, about the achievements and irregularities of the Cuban Editorial Industry was opened.
The representatives of Gente Joven, Abril and Pablo de la Torriente publishing houses discussed the complexities in the editing of children literature, that are part of the literature for adults, they also referred to the problems of the publications for children. Letras Cubanas publishing house launched this Thursday the Alejo Carpentier Award titles of last year: La Biblia Perdida by Ernesto Peña; Del otro lado, by Rafael de Anquila
