A thousand delegates from 18 countries confirmed their attendance to the Sixth Continental Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba to be held in Mexico in October, said a member of the organizing committee of the event.
"The meeting will be a great cultural and political event," said to local media Robert Hamilton, a member of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), and one of the coordinators of the forum.
Hamilton revealed that the event will opened on October 6 with a tribute to the victims of the sabotage to a Cubana de Aviacion airplane that caused the death of the 73 people aboard on October 6, 1973.
On October 7, participants will dedicate the day to ask for support to Rene Gonzalez, one of the five Cuban anti-terrorism fighters imprisoned in U.S. since 1998. Rene finishes his imprisonment on that day, but he must serve an additional three years of supervised freedom in Miami, Florida.
The solidarity movement will demand that Rene be allowed to return to his country, instead of serving the additional time in this Southern state of the United States.
On October 8, it is scheduled an evening in memory of the legendary Argentinean-Cuban guerrilla man Ernesto "Che" Guevara. And on October 9, the documents of the meeting will be presented and a march and a concert will close the encounter.
