Get to you our message of condolence to the families of the victims of this disaster
The Cuban Five antiterrorists unfairly imprisoned for more than 11 years in the U.S. expressed their solidarity with the Haitian people at this "tragic and painful time" they are passing through after the earthquake a week ago.
Get to you our message of condolence to the families of the victims of this disaster coupled with a message of encouragement and hope, say in a communication disclosed on Tuesday Ramon Labañino, Rene Gonzalez, Gerardo Hernandez, Fernando Gonzalez and Antonio Guerrero.
We are sure the strength of the Haitian people along with the international assistance will enable the recovery of their country. In that work you will always have the solidarity and the Cuban people’s help, says the text.
The Five, as they are known worldwide, say goodbye with a strong and fraternal embrace to the inhabitants of this Caribbean nation, one of the poorest in the world and hit again by nature.
Ramón, René, Gerardo, Fernando and Antonio were arrested in September 1998 for monitoring anti-Cuban groups settled in Florida, southern USA, with a thick file of terrorist acts against the island.
In the subsequent trial was shown their activities did not threaten the security of America.
Despite their declared innocence and the claim of the international community for their release, the Five are serving sentences from 15 years' imprisonment to double life plus 15 years.
