Cuba’s ambassador in Tokyo, Jose Fernandez de Cossio, presented Eiko Tomiyama with the Friendship Medal, given by the Cuban Council of State. Tomiyama is an activist in favor of the release of the five Cubans unjustly incarcerated in the United States.
The diplomat highlighted the outstanding work of Tomiyama at the heart of a group of Japanese jurists committed to the defense of these patriots, her translation of legal documents, and her participation in the 5th Meeting of Solidarity with The Five, held in Cuba.
He acknowledged the identification and support of the activist with the struggle against the illegal and criminal economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by Washington on the Caribbean island.
He pointed out that this siege has remained intact in all of its components, including its extraterritorial nature.
Fernandez de Cossio made reference to the communiqué unanimously adopted during the recently concluded Summit of Latin American and Caribbean States, which categorically condemned the criminal blockade, the Cuban Foreign Ministry’s web site reports.
In her words of appreciation, the awarded activist reaffirmed her identification with and commitment to the struggles of the Cuban people in defense of its independence and sovereignty.
Attending the solemn ceremony held at the Cuban embassy in Japan were members of various social organizations and trade unions from the Asian nation.
