The popular radio program Luna de Papel presented everyday by Isabel Escobar on Radio Luna, Ecuador, was different last May 5 because Cuban troubadour Alcides Medina called the attention of the audience with his songs and poetry dedicated to all Cuban mothers, especially the mothers of the Five Cuban antiterrorists imprisoned in the United States.
The artist, also a cultural activist of the Association of Cubans Residents in Ecuador (ACURE), proudly read his most recent poem Five men upon the ice. “Because no Cuban will ever allow that another compatriot will be humiliated and offended everywhere”, it reads.
Later, a couple of songs, some phone calls and the presenter’s comments provided the entertainment for the program, and finally the announcement that soon one of the Cuban Five’s mothers will visit Ecuador invited by the Cuban community.
