The National Committee to Free the Cuban Five in U.S. ask the Attorney General Eric Holder, to initiate proceedings with the release of the Cuban Five imprisoned in that country for almost 12 years.
The initiative of the solidarity committee will have the support of other civil and pacifist organizations, with which it formed a coalition to require Holder to take "immediate action" according to a statement released on Saturday.
Prensa Latina News Agency added that the applicants ask the Secretary of Justice that addresses the request to "provide remedy" and cause "relief freeing the Cuban Five”.
This requirement is based on the breaches of government and covert operations which deprived Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando González and René González of its elemental right to a fair trial.
In a press conference held last week, for the first time the National Committee showed evidence that the U.S. Administration had secretly paid thousands of dollars to journalists from Miami to create an atmosphere of harmful propaganda against those who fought only against terrorism.
The evidence was the result of an investigation carried out by the committee that took 18 months, and for those results were brought two lawsuits, based on the Freedom of Information ACT(Freedom of Information Act, FOIA), the statement added.
At that time, were made public the names of reporters who were paid during the period of the arrest and trial of the Five, as well as the amounts expended, amounting to about 74, 400 dollars in total.
