
Ricardo Alarcón protest to the world for the mistreatment against the Cuban antiterrorist fighters Gerardo Hernandez
Ricardo Alarcón, president of the National Assembly of People's Power, reported in Havana that the legislative body will protest to the world for the mistreatment against the Cuban antiterrorist fighters Gerardo Hernandez, in a U.S. prison.
Alarcón explained that in view of the unjustified and inhumane treatment against Gerardo, one of the Five Heroes unjustly imprisoned in U.S. jails, the Cuban Parliament will begin its plenary session on Sunday with an official condemnation of such acts.
As part of the current Cuban Parliament sessions in the Havana’s Convention Center, vice president of the Council of Ministers, Ricardo Cabrisas reiterated that the main efforts of the branches of Cuban Foreign Trade focus on import substitution and promoting exports, in order to seek monetary income needed by the country for its development and welfare.
Cabrisas recalled that 23 economic guidelines approved for 2010, will be carried out by Ministry of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment.
Likewise, Minister of Iron and Steel Industry, Salvador Pardo Cruz said that in Cuba there are reserves of raw materials which can be exploited in the production of goods and services, while director of the Union Company for the recovery of inputs, Jorge Luis Tamayo Diaz stated that not being able to recover the amounts provided for paper, cardboard or scrap copper, the state will have to buy them in the international market at high prices.
The Minister of Labor and Social Security, Ana Margarita Gonzalez said that until people do not feel the need to work, to contribute to society where it is most useful, will not be able to reach the required productivity, which must be greater than the average wage, and explained that as part of mainstreaming efforts will focus on payment systems in the interests of its proper application
President of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Cuban Parliament, Ramon Pez Ferro ratified the arrangement of the largest of the Antilles to continue aid to Haiti, a nation devastated by an earthquake on January 12.
We reaffirm the decision to do everything in our power to further promote the solidarity of Cuba and all countries in the world with that nation, stressed Pez Ferro to the local press, after lawmakers of the working group received wide information on the current situation in the Caribbean country.
In this regard, Dr. Jose Rubiera, director of the Forecast Center of Cuba's Meteorological Institute, warned that the ecological damage caused in Haiti by extreme poverty, could cause more deaths to any weather event
