Although the large media outlets and circles of power at the service of US imperialism try to silence or distort the case of the five Cuban antiterrorists imprisoned in the U.S., the World Campaign for their release that began over the weekend is, for its strength and scope, like a violent storm.

On Sunday, when 12 years of their cruel and unjust incarceration were marked, the clamor for freedom for René González, Ramón Labañino, Gerardo Hernández, Fernando González and Antonio Guerrero, was felt at the top of the island’s highest elevations and in dozens of places on the planet, including the entrails of the monster, as Cuba’s National Hero José Martí called the northern country.

For example, members of the group "United Actors and Artists for the Freedom of the Five Cubans, sent a letter to U.S. President Barack Obama, demanding the immediate release of The Five, being Danny Glover, Edward Asner, Susan Sarandon, Oliver Stone, Martin Sheen, Pete Seeger, Ry Cooder, Bonnie Raitt, Chrissie Hynde, Haskell Wexler, Graham Nash and Jackson Browne among the document’s signatories, according to the Cubadebate Web site.

In Havana, the National Assembly of the People’s Power, in a statement addressed to parliaments and peoples of the world stressed the importance of increasing solidarity, today more than ever, with these heroes of the Republic of Cuba.

The text states that the cause of Gerardo, Ramón, Antonio, Fernando and René is supported by peoples, social, political and professional organizations, and governments and parliaments from around the world.

From Luanda, Kenia Serrano, president of the Cuban Institute for Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), denounced the unjust case of the anti-terrorist fighters at the 3rd African Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba, where, in a special session, personalities like former Namibian President Sam Nujoma, Patrick Herminie, President of the Parliament of Seychelles, and Carlos Gomes Junior, Prime Minister of Guinea Bissau, approved a letter they will send to US President Barack Obama, demanding their immediate release.

The First International Regional Meeting for the Freedom of The Five is underway in Buenos Aires, attended by representatives from Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay and Argentina, a country where a demonstration in front of the US Embassy and debates on the case at the Association of State Employees Association have been scheduled, and on Monday, September 13, Mirtha Rodriguez, the mother of Antonio Guerrero, and Nuris Piñero, the lawyer of the relatives of The Five, offered a press conference at the Cuban embassy.

According to ICAP officials, this world campaign in solidarity with the Cuban patriots, who have the support of over 330 committees in some 110 countries, as well as that of renowned personalities -among them heads of state and Nobel Prize winners- will be held around the world until December,

The demonstrations, the use of social networks on the Internet, of the so-called Computing Youth Clubs and cell phones, and as many ways as possible to contribute to spread throughout the world the truth about The Five, have joined the call of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro for peace, to prevent the holocaust mankind would suffer if a nuclear war broke out.

Also over the weekend, there were activities by student and mass organizations organized by the Cuban Institute for Friendship with the Peoples and the Young Communists League, which included youth marches, recreational and sports festivals, cultural evenings, voluntary work and meetings with jurists and relatives of the antiterrorist fighters.

From Caballete de Casa, in the central province of Sancti-Spíritus, Pan de Guajaibón in Matanzas, the Pico Blanco in Villa Clara, La Gran Piedra in Santiago de Cuba, La Sierra del Chorrillo in Camagüey and the Pico Real del Turquino, in the Sierra Maestra Mountains, just to name some of the island’s highest elevations, flags of solidarity and justice were hoisted for The Five.

On Monday, actions in favor of this cause continued.
