
Chico Buarque
To solidarity network which hardly in a week has pulled all its efforts to demand justice for the Five. Brazilian Chico Buarque de Hollanda, an emblematic artist and one of the most relevant poets and musicians of this nation have joined the initiative.
The Brazilian artist has been informed by his friend, Silvio Rodriguez about the outrages suffered by the Cuban antiterrorist fighters unjustly imprisoned in the United States, the author of the song lyrics “ Que sera and Samba de Orly” joined the initiative promoted by U.S actors and musicians who demand to Barack Obama to exert his executive power to release the Five.
From Mexico, where he recently sang before thousands of people in the city of Juarez, a few meters from the U.S Mexican border, Buarque and Eusebio Leal, the Havana City historian, were awarded with the Honoris Causa Doctorate at the University of Veracruz, the Cuban singer-song writer also expressed his solidarity with the cause of Gerardo, Rene, Antonio, Fernando and Ramon.
Reliable sources assessed the support given in the last hours by prominent personalities of the Afro-American intellectual community such as prominent awarded writer Alice Walker and poet and playwright Amiri Baraka (Leroy Jones) as well as the philosopher of Hungarian origin Istvan Meszaros, Belgian sociologists Armand and Michelle Matterlart and Italian singer-songwriter Luca Barbarossa.
