Spanish member of the European Parliament Willy Meyer, who heads a European United Left–Nordic Green Left (EUL-NGL) delegation to Cuba, demanded the immediate release of the five Cuban antiterrorist unjustly incarcerated in the United States.
Meyer and his delegation met with relatives of the Cuban Five, as René Gonzalez, Ramón Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez and Gerardo Hernandez are known internationally, where he ratified their commitment to support their cause in the European Parliament and each of the 27 countries members of the European Union.
He also lashed the obstacles the US government puts to the Cuban Five’s relatives to visit them in the jails, which is a flagrant human rights violation.
The EUL-NGL is concentrating their efforts to ask US president Barack Obama to grant the presidential pardon to the Cuban antiterrorists, Meyer said.
Greek Communist Party member Giorgios Toussas said they are willing to continue their campaigns in support of the Cuban Five release, since the constant work in the international arena is the weapon to bring them back to their homeland.
Ramon Labañino´s wife, Elizabeth Palmeiro thanked the delegation for their unconditional support and said this was a crucial moment for their cause.
She stressed that the only way to succeed is to increase the international pressure on the US government.
