free the cuban fiveMore than 330 delegates from nearly 50 countries have confirmed their attendance at the 8th International Colloquium for the Freedom of the Cuban Five convicted in the United States, organizers reported. Traditionally held in Holguin, the meeting will be held from November 28 to December 1. It is expected that the number of participants rise a little more, Amaury Torno, delegate of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) in that territory, told Prensa Latina.

The event aims to coordinate further actions for the return to the island of Gerardo Hernandez, Rene Gonzalez, Antonio Guerrero, Ramon Labañino and Fernando Gonzalez, who were detained in 1998 for monitoring Miami-based terrorist groups.

The Distinction was given at the Jose Marti Anti-Imperialist Tribune, an ideal place that involves patriotism, nobility, vocation for justice and the optimism in the triumph which daily lifts the Five Heroes, and which the producers of the radio program represented by Arleen Rodriguez, Angelica Paredes and Demetrius Villaurrutia broadcast with deep and fresh pride.

cinco-heroes-girasolesWith a call to support the campaign for the release of political prisoners in the U.S., the Occupy Wall Street movement (OWS) today also supported the cause of the Five Cubans imprisoned in that country.

Members of Occupy Oakland, California, one of a group of branches spread throughout the nation, called for a National Day of Occupation for Prisoners on Monday, February 20, near San Quentin prison, north of San Francisco.

On February 14 the Radio Rebelde national station broadcast a special program dedicated to Antonio (Tony) Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez, Rene Gonzalez, Ramon Labañino, four of the Five Cubans imprisoned in the United States for fighting against terrorism. The Cuban people had the opportunity to listen to the voices of these anti-terrorists during the broadcast. This way, a bridge of love between the Cuban anti-terrorists and their relatives and the island was built.
