Singer and songwriter Silvio Rodríguez was awarded the Premio del Barrio Award the night he performed his 18th concert in communities with complex social situations. The award was delivered by the member of the Executive Secretariat of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR) presented the singer the award that recognizes his "community work in the interest of society”
The rain, necessary and whimsical, could not spoil this time the plans conceived by Silvio Rodríguez with the neighbors from the communities Cantarrana and La Ceiba, in La Ceiba Popular Council, in the municipality of Playa. Although the presentation the day before had to be suspended for the rain; this time, neighbors decided not to be let down by the bad weather and attended the concert even from the rooftops of their houses.
The visitor, who was received as a close relative, was punctual to his date. The spectators slowly filled the space. This was the 18th concert since September 9, 2010 when Silvio surprised the residents of La Corbata neighborhood with the first presentation of a tour that has not yet concluded. As Silvio has said, after he finishes his concerts in the capital, he wants to go and sing in places outside the capital, to do the same in neighborhoods in need of some cities and towns across the country.As it is traditional in these concerts, Silvio brought some guests from different art manifestations. This time, he was accompanied by singer and songwriter Manolo Argudin , who opened the concert.
As a preamble to the tribute, the singer was presented with the award by coordinator Carlos Rafael Martínez Miranda, member of the Executive Secretariat of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR), the largest mass organization in the country.
The award recognizes the extensive community work developed by the singer, along with other musicians, writers and artists in the neighborhoods of the capital, and in prisons across the country, by contributing to the spiritual growth of the community.
Silvio dedicated the award to all those people whose work backstage is essential in every concert he plays. “Many people we don’t see have been working for days to make this happen. To those people, I dedicate this award with all my heart. "
Silvio sang to the audience his songs, despite the persistent drizzle. He started with El Papalote. At each pause the audience asked their favorite songs and sang along classics songs of his repertoire like Oleo de mujer con sombrero, Cancion del elegido, Cita con angeles, La era, Pioneros, El enanito, El Mayor, El necio, Cuenta, Ojala, El escaramujo and Virgen de Occidente.
At the end of the concert, Silvio came down the stage to show his gratitude as he always does, as if remembering something he has repeatedly said: "We feel the gratitude of the neighborhoods for taking our work to the doors of their houses and, in return, I think they feel our gratitude for receiving us the way they do.
