Although some radio programs used to be recorded, including news magazines and newscasts, those were times of development for radio in documentaries, interviews, dramatization in news programs, which turned into paradigms, and where radio producers created a school for radio documentary makers as well.
Recorded programs entailed slowness, lack of freshness and monotony; however the artistic level was recreated in some other kind of programs.
The existence of a unique editorial office for all news programs on radio - from news bulletin to newscasts – did not contribute to dynamism, and at most radio stations the audience was being lost and the listening rates decreased to very low levels.
This event had its backgrounds in general programming, when national stations were turned into broadcasting centres of what was produced by a general programming Division.
The need to put new energy into radio communication led stations to produce for their own, but the bad thing had been done and some stations could not get their banner back, even when their shows had a good quality and their contents were suitable for a significant cultural framework.
The experience of radio programs having an impact on the listeners’ lives in a sensitive manner, and also being a permanent artistic attraction, such as action serials, programs for children, radio soap operas and musical programs, was not taken back since social dynamics belonged to new times.
At first, the use of uncommon words was restricted to being more direct, simple and clear, but led to an impoverishment of accessibility or veracity
At that time there included issues to increase general education, but it resulted in the listeners´ abandonment of programs and the radio stations due to the use of radio codes in specialized programs and the introduction of a speech into radio coverage pertaining to other radio stations such as “The Class” just to put a simple example.
It was not about simplifying contents to make them more accessible to be understood but about using the right thing at the right moment. It was not meant to make the product nicer to impress a listener but to achieve a complete memory.
So a radio production is required to attenuate listeners´ tiredness through a vivid speech, taking advantage of all the elements of communicative speech in a full and expressive manner, by recovering the magic of seduction and attracting the listeners´ attention by way of a better use of the expressive potentialities through the programming accommodation taking into account the station’s features.
Radio is subjected to a huge competition regarding sound effects and functions, which were almost unique for them like newscasts and sound tracks. Today, the outlook has changed and the spectrum to get theses contents has varied and has a better quality.
The fully use of wisdom, talent and communication techniques to achieve a unique radio product is an imminent need. Times have changed, audiences have, according to their real possibilities, different and varied needs and the media outlet must try to meet them.
An expressive production will respect the principle of visibility and make greater efforts to "show" characters and objects to the listener's imagination. While trying to strive for pleasure with optimistic passages and stories, it must also try to meet life improvement with pleasant elements.
The sound medium needs to face the challenge of making listeners feel sensations related to weather, sensuality - universal and kind – so that they feel and imagine what is narrated.
With this descriptive activity the listener can recognize the imagined reality on its own from what he is listening and have his own version of what it has been told on the radio. It must make the listener react before perils and pleasures without clinging to an uncertain stand.
To achieve better results, radio must make a listener play the main role on its programs; feeling a responsibility for contents and encouraging its participation as part of the programming as such.
The creative atmosphere could be better even though supporting materials are scarce, by looking back into past experiences and using them to portray the current reality. It is not possible to keep the audience on dial with issues and topics unrelated to its emotional, spiritual and material condition.
Radio’s only choice is to develop its feature of companion, individual and friendly, while communicating with everybody.
Everything is possible if program simplification is attained which could be original at a certain time, but could get older very quickly because they turn out to be repetitive and obvious, where collective thinking is rarely used or done without a planned strategy.
Anyway, there is a basic thing that should be taken into account on Cuban Radio nowadays: to praise, with its flaws and virtues, the effort carried out by our society in order to develop itself; to keep in mind the leading role played by the people and their contribution to society.
Through art we can illustrate, by means of specific plays, the transmission of emotional expressions; and radio, in terms of such artistic notion, has a vast scope to cover. Do not limit creation by yourself, search for the key of understanding the radio art function and display it clearly for the listener’s sake.
