There  is a question I have repeatedly heard on the radio: What is the main element on radio programming planning?

Undoubtedly, the answer is: the script. The script is the foundations of the whole programa structure. A program without a script is like a drifting ship in the storm.

Professionally speaking, we must consider that the script reflects what should take place along the program, i.e. the length of time on air, and  we can also appreciate its internal plot or curve of interest, the site, the level and the role of each character or feature in the program, the radio language tinges, its music, among other important aspects to be considered.

On the other hand, there are five types of radio scripts for production planning and  literature support:
Drama script.

Very complex script.
Complex script.
Less complex script.
Technical script.

We must take into consideration that in Technical Script flexibility is one of the most significant advantages especially in any kind of show because they usually are live and can provide last minute news coverage, to statements, etc. If they had another type of format that would not be possible.

This type of script is also used regularly in live musical programs as it offers the same advantages as any other show.

It is convenient to clarify that while the playlist is the structural diagram of what should be the script order and it  is timeless because its elements may be applicable to any program, the technical script logically provides an order for the radio program structure; sets the order and the level and role of content factors involved in production; establishes the presence and existence of every aspect of support for the plot throughout the program.

When these issues have been discussed in specialized workshops,  especific subjects have emerged which will need a special attention and therefore we should be careful in the use of accent, by advising to use the imperative  whenever possible. Even the oblivion of punctuation marks has been taken as acceptable,  which has turned out to be trend among scriptwriters taking into account the allegedly skilfullness and professionalism on the part of announcers.

Even now  scripts containing some negative features can be found in general: too many literary texts that avoid necessary conversational inclinations, texts, in turn, repetitive, on many occasions long and in the case of dramas they do not establish marked differences that may prevail among characters, thus blowing up, so to speak, the proper development of the their dramatic progression without which, the plot comes to a halt and becomes repetitive and unbearable.

Radio is a medium in which, by no means can be dealt with a sense of adventure. It requires professionalism that may develop accordingly what has been studied and checked.   In the future, there is still too much progress without rejecting the logical experimentation allowing qualitative progressive leaps in our programming.

Cuban radio professionals are well trained regarding all aspects and therefore there are assurances they might reach the excellency related to the quality of what we offer to our listeners and those elsewhere in the world.

And, no doubt, everything starts with the SCRIPT.
