The economic blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba is unfair and illegal, said Saharan foreign minister Mohamed Ould Salek and he noted that his government´s position is shared by other African countries.
The blockade is an illegal policy against the heroic people of Cuba, who deserve full respect because the island participated in the liberation of Africa, supported the African nations and Africa supports Cuba, said the Saharan government official.
In statements to PL news agency in the Ethiopian capital Addis Abeba, venue of the ministerial meeting of 21st summit of the African Union, Salek insisted that the US economic siege of Cuba must be immediately lifted. He recalled the support by the Cuban government of the Saharan people and its condemnation of the Moroccan occupation of Saharan territory.
The foreign minister said that his government will back any African Union initiative so that Cuba has a more notorious participation in the African forum. At present Cuba has observer status.
