Friends of Cuba will be together on July 26 in Ciego de Avila Print E-mail

A representation of the solidarity brigades with Cuba “Juan Rius Rivera”, of Puerto Rico; “Venceremos”, of the United States and the 22th caravan of friendship US-Cuba, of inter-religious group “Pastores por la Paz”, also from that nation, will celebrate together the people from Ciego de Avila province –venue of the event- National Rebellion Day, on July26.

According to Mercedes Mendez Fariñas, a specialist of the provincial delegation of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), the visit of those brigades to Ciego de Avila includes tours of historical sites in the capital of the province,  exchanges with officials of the Communist Party of Cuba, the provincial Government, political and mass organizations, as well as with members of the Young Communist League and Department of International Relations of the People's Assembly of Ciego de Avila.

The brigade members will also exchange with combatants of the Cuban Revolution at the colloquium “Por un 26 de Victorias”, with workers of several social- cultural institutions and specialists of ICAP. The stage of a play tittled “Medea de barro” byf D'Moron Theatre Company will be included as part of the activities scheduled for the event.

The brigade from Puerto Rico, number 45, is a faithful defender of the cause of the Cuban Five and the release of Puerto Rican prisoners, is composed of 150 people, will come to Cuba for 20th time aimed at strengthening its brotherhood with the island under the banner: “ Twenty years of challenge for the Puerto Rican people in solidarity with Cuba.”

Meanwhile, the 42nd “Venceremos” brigade challenged the U.S. blockade imposed on Cuba for more than five decades, to express its support for the release of Rene Gonzalez, Ramon Labanino, Fernando Gonzalez, Antonio Guerrero and Gerardo Hernandez, know the reality of the Cuban people and to honor the Rev. Lucius Walker, whose remains lie on Cuban soil.

After attending the celebration of the 58th anniversary of the storming of the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Cespedes Garrisons, the three brigades will continue their tour through several Cuban provinces, as part of their ongoing program to support the Cuban social project.
