"Today's battle is a crucial front in the everyday and relentless struggle against our own mistakes and shortcomings," said Cuban Vice President Jose Ramon Machado Ventura today during his speech at the main ceremony for the 58th anniversary of the Assault on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Cespedes garrisons, which took place in the central province of Ciego de Avila.

"We express our gratitude to all combatants of that glorious deed and our fighting people whose unshakable will to fight still remains as the main guarantee of the will and the right to be owners of our fate conquered by ourselves on January 1st, 1959, " said Machado Ventura.

"We are celebrating the National Rebellion Day for the third time in this province of Ciego de Avila: the first time was in 1980, the second was more than 20 years after in 2002, and this time as a just recognition for the achievements fulfilled in various fields. For that reason the Ciego de Avila province won the right to host such a crucial event," noted the Vice President; however what it has done up to the date in the province is not enough, as was analyzed at the Provincial Party Assembly, of Ciego de Avila," highlighted Machado Ventura.

On the other hand, the Cuban vice president highlighted the economic results of the province in the agriculture field and passed on to the over 60,000 locals congratulations from Commander in chief Fidel Castro and President Raul.

"Ciego de Avila has yet many crucial tasks to fulfill in food production, the sugarcane harvest and the development of tourism in the northern Keys of the province, "said Machado Ventura.

Machado Ventura referred to the Guidelines for the Economic and Social Policy of the Party and the revolution passed at the Sixth Cuban Party Congress, which constitutes a guide for the updating of our economic model, and the work that governmental commission should carry out on this new process.

Machado referred to the internatonal role played by the Bolivarian Alternative for the Peoples of Our Americas (ALBA), which is strengthening and is a proof of all we can do and how close we are in an attempt to promote respect for the sovereignty of each country. He also mentioned the achievements of the progressive forces in the southern hemisphere, especially the recent victory of Ollanta Humala in Peru.

"Today the battle has a crucial front in the everyday and relentless struggle against our own mistakes and shortcomings, we have the basic elements to achieve a gradual development of the national economy; it is a people ready and willing," said the Vice President Council of State and Ministers.

"We are sure that the people of Ciego de Avila province will continue to struggle alongside the rest of the Cubans with the same spirit and patriotic fervor of those Cubans who fought in defense of the Cuban revolution that July 26, 1953. We will win once again together with Fidel, Raul and our communist party, " concluded the Cuban Vice President in his speech at the ceremony.
