The scientific community of Villa Clara was one of the sectors that helped the province obtained the venue of the main event for the National Rebellion Day. More than 300 projects are being carried out which significant results have influenced, in a satisfactory way, on the economic and social fields.
Dr. Maria del Carmen Velasco, from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA) in Villa Clara, said that that the greatest efforts have been directed to high priority sectors such as food production, electric power saving, diversification of the sugar industry, house building, and Social Sciences and Humanities.
Velazco gave some examples related to seed production by each producer, as well as those groups of workers that are working on the farms, and some facilities of the biotechnology industry. She also mentioned that the eco-materials technology is applied in nine municipalities for building houses.
"There is major integration nowadays among the Organization of Forum of Science and Technology, innovators and members of the Youth Technical Brigades, " Velazco said and mentioned other achievements including the second national place obtained by the “Turquino Plan”, carried out in the mountains of Escambray, as well as, the increase of forest rate to 22 percent, the reducing of the pollutant load and the National Award of Environment for the protected area “Las Picuas-Cayo Cristo.”
"The exportable products in the province are backed by the required standards, including five types of sugar, three kinds of rum and organic sugar produced in Carlos Baliño sugar mill," Dr. Velazco informed.
Journalist of CMHW radio station Dalia Reyes from Villa Clara reported that “Facing to the Climate Change” Program was approved, a method for the control of electricity power was spread in some entities of the province, and essential weather forecasts of the Weather forecasts Center are applied like those of the forest fire and of rain.
"Along with the Academy of Sciences of Cuba Awards and Technological Innovation, our scientists have once again proved that their work is critical and they are playing a decisive role taking into account what the country is currently demanding; the increase of production and social development. That is translated into a contribution to the province, which will celebrate on July 26 the National Rebellion Day, “the CITMA representative affirmed.
