The piano player Ulises Hernández, director of the Havana Mozart Lyceum, will offer a concert with pieces by the important composer from Matanzas Gisela Hernández, on Thursday October 20, at 7:00 p.m., in the Oratorio San Felipe Neri, to celebrate the Cuban Culture day.

Among the pieces included in the program there is Preludio y fuga, by Hernández, with its three parts –Son, Guajira and Toque de clave- as well as Diez canciones de amor (Ten love songs) –Mi corazón lo trajo el mar, Única mar, Solo por el rocío, Huerto de marzo, Romancillo, Diálogo, Voy a medirme el amor, Lloraba la noche el alma, Gancho de oro fino and De prisa tierra de prisa- interpreted by the special guest, the soprano Bárbara Llanes.

The celebration will end with the presentation of the album Hilario González, from the series Homenaje al Grupo de Renovación Musical (Tribute to the Musical Renovation Group) from the Colibrí Recording Label, and the performance of the soprano Gessliam Suárez, accompanied on the piano by Víctor Díaz, the main stars of the recording.

The Havana Mozart Lyceum was inaugurated on January 27, 2009. In this project there are participating the Mozarteum Internacional, the Office of the Historian of the City and the Higher Art University (ISA in Spanish). One of its aims is to propitiate the approach of the young people and music students to the work of Mozart as well as to contribute to the rescue and diffusion of the Cuban musical heritage. This is the case of the pieces created by the members of the Musical Renovation Group, among them Gisela Hernández and e Hilario González.

Maybe the greatest achievement of the Lyceum has been to systematise the functioning of an orchestra-school, made up by medium level music students. Even though it was not conceived to offer performances, it opens its doors on the third week of each month, so that the young people may enjoy the experience of performing in public, while they may make the public enjoy their interpretation of chamber music. This experience, which is necessary to systematize what has been learned in the academy, is vital for professional musicians who hope to play in front of the people.

The Lyceum also propitiate that the students may receive lessons and for them to participate in workshops with important European directors and university teachers, with whom they develop abilities on the repertoire and management of a symphonic orchestra. It is a sort of scholarship without having to travel to Vienna, where they may reach very talented professionals during the fifteen days that lasts the course agreed between the sponsoring institutions.
