
Cuban singer and writer Gerardo Alfonso received "Orlando Castellanos" Award on August 24 as part of the activities carried out during the International Biennial of the Cuban Radio held on August 20-24. The Prize was given by Radio Havana Cuba international station.
Gerardo Alfonso, an outstanding Cuban musician, received this Award for his song 'Radio'. He explained the reasons that made him write this song dedicated to 50th anniversary of Radio Havana Cuba station, which was held in 2011.
The Award comprised of a printed canvas with the last portrait that Ecuadorean painter Oswaldo Guayasamin painted of leader of the Revolution Fidel Castro, which was given by Pedro Martinez Pirez, an honorary member of Guayasamin Fundation as well as a certificate signed by Pablo Guayasamin, president of Guayasamin Fundation, and Alfredo Vera, director of International Relations of that Ecuadorean institution created by the "Painter of Latin America".
The ceremony was held at the Tulipan Hotel in Havana, during the closing of the First International Biennial of the Cuban Radio, in which many radio workers from Cuba anad Latin America were present, as well as the President of the Cuban Institute of Radio and Television, Danilo Soto.
