Pianist and composer Chucho Valdes and his The Afrocuban Messengers band won the Extraordinaire Award in the XVI International Fair Cubadisco 2012 with his record “Chucho´s Steps”
The record was produced under licence by the Colibri Label that belongs to the Cuban Music Institute and has 8 tracks that mix in a perfect way the main characteristics of the Latin jazz with the Afro Cuban folklore.

The national prevention and disaster reduction exercise Meteoro 2012 ends Sunday after checking the operation of the control and management groups of civil defense devoted to the protection of lives and property.
The main objective is to ensure the plans to prevent and address the impact of hurricanes, droughts, forest fires, epidemics and other phenomena.

Wreaths sent by Cuban President Raul Castro and Cuban Revolution leader Fidel Castro were placed on Saturday in this city at the Mausoleum where the mortal remains of Cuban patriot Jose Marti repose, on the occasion of the 117th anniversary of his death in combat.
Another two representing the Cuban councils of State and Ministers and the people of Cuba were also placed.

US writer, journalist and filmmaker Saul Landau visited one of the five Cuban anti-terrorism fighters wrongly imprisoned in the US, Gerardo Hernandez, in the maximum security prison of Victorville, California.
An article posted on the Progresso Weekly website, the director of Will the Real Terrorist Please Stand Up tells details about the encounter with Gerardo, who was charged of conspiring to commit murder because "he allegedly – the government offered no evidence – passed the flight information to Cuban authorities knowing they would shoot the planes down," reads the article.

The obstacles imposed by the U.S. economic, financial and commercial blockade against Cuba stopping the island from accessing information and communication were denounced Wednesday in Geneva by the island's representation before the World Trade Organization.
Speaking at a symposium marking the 15th anniversary of the Agreement on Information Technologies, Carlos Fidel Martin, advisor for the Cuban diplomatic mission in Geneva said the WTO most urge Washington to put an end to its unilateral coercive measures.
