
Julio Alberto Batista Delgado journalist and documentary producer
Journalist and documentary producer for the Cuban radio Julio Alberto Batista Delgado was awarded on January 21st the "José Martí" 2012 Prize by the Cultural Society, in recognition of his lifetime work, as well as his determined effort to promote the thoughts and work of Jose Marti, our National Hero and Apostle.
The National Board of the Cultural Society, whose eminent chair is Dr. Armando Hart Dávalos -National Education Award Winner 2011, presented the recognition to the journalist for his work carried out as a communicator, and for revealing in his work outstanding aspects related to Jose Martí, as well as promoting Martí's thoughts and his dialectical relationship between man, ethics, and nature.
The ceremony carried out at the "José Martí" Memorial was attended by Guillermo Pavón Pacheco, vice president of the Cuban Institute of Radio and Television, Onelio Castillo, head of Information and Propaganda of the Cuban Radio, and Jose Antonio Guerra García, director of the Radio Progreso station.
“I think this is a deserved recognition to Julio Batista since he is an artist who has dedicated all his life to the Cuban radio with a boundless humility”, the intellectual Pablo Armando Fernandez, specialist of José Martí’s life and work told the Cuban Radio web site.
Cuban journalist Maria de los Angeles Jiménez, noted that interviews and radio documentaries carried out by Julio Batista and broadcast on the “Punto de Vista” (Viewpoint) radio program, are the chronicle of the Cuban Revolution during the last 20 years. So it is essential for us to nurture the work of Batista, who received a deserved recognition for his mark in promoting Marti’s work.
Julio Batista was born in the eastern province of Las Tunas. His career on the radio started in radio in 1954 and he worked at various radio stations such as Radio Rebelde and Radio Progreso. He has worked for the radio as an actor, writer and journalist. He was founder of the Latin American ICAIC (Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry) newscast and creator of popular programs such as "Cuba en el mundo” (Cuba in the World)," "Punto de vista” (Point of View) and "Este es nuestro Jose Marti (This is our José Martí).
