The Cuban Five Send Message to the Cuban Youth Congress Print E-mail

Havana, Cuba, Apr 5.- Gerardo Hernandez, Rene Gonzalez, Antonio Guerrero, Ramon Labañino and Fernando Gonzalez, the five Cuban antiterrorism fighters incarcerated in the United States, sent a message to the 9th Congress of the Young Communists League (UJC).



It’s an honor for us to have been elected delegates of honor to his important meeting; this multiplies our spirit and strengthens our decision of resisting and struggling until victory is achieved, affirm The Five in their letter, read on Sunday morning at the beginning of the second and last day of sessions of the Congress.

Together with young communists and the entire people, along with the Party, Fidel and Raul, we’ll continue the struggle for truth and justice, for our release from prison and for our return to our homeland, add René, Gerardo, Antonio, Fernando and Ramon, besides reiterating their innocence and their absolute confidence in the triumph of the their cause.

On March 13, in a ceremony held on top of the Turquino Peak, the five patriots were proclaimed Delegates of Honor to the 9th Congress of the Young Communists League, along with Cuban Revolution leader Fidel Castro and President Raul Castro.

Present in the sessions of the youth forum on Sunday are Raul -who is also the Second Secretary of the Central Committee of the Cuban Communist Party-; and Politburo members José Ramon Machado Ventura, first vice-president of the councils of State and Ministers; and Esteban Lazo and Ramiro Valdes, among other leaders of the Party, State and government.

Especially invited for the meeting underway at Havana’s Convention Center, are mothers, wives and children of The Five.

As part of the agenda of this Congress, its 800 delegates approved of Sunday morning the Resolution on changes in the UJC statutes, which, among other changes, institutes the category of recommended persons for 9th grade pioneer children.

Also during the morning session, a summary of the organic process of this meeting -from the celebration of open assemblies on October 28, 2009, in over 38,000 work and student centers throughout the country- was made.

A brief report on the work carried out and main agreements reached during the meetings of the five commissions on Saturday, the first day of the Congress, was read on Sunday morning.

Under the slogan “All for the Revolution” the Congress will be brought to a close this afternoon by President Raul Castro.(ACN)
