The work as a source of wealth, the Socialism as the only alternative for development, social justice and democracy for Cuba were issues included on the final declaration of the 9th Congress of the Young Communist League (UJC), which its final session was dedicated to Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro.

The document read by Liudmila Alamo Dueñas, First Secretary of the UJC National Committee refereed to the certain attitudes of egocentrism and social misbehavior among minority segments of youth, as a result of the harsh times known as special period.

Facing such attitudes the declaration urges to firmly face those manifestations of double standard, lack of will to combat the wrongdoing and the trends to live comfortably without working or accumulate wealth without personal sacrifice.

It denounced the anti-Cuba campaign, which tries to undermine unity and sow doubts to modify patterns of behavior, mostly among the youth, as a way to promote individualism, hypercriticism, consumerism, disobedience and lack of trust on the Cuban Revolution and its historic leaders.

According to the work and importance of the grass-root committees, the final declaration regards it as a space for discussion where problems find a solution, decisions are adopted, concepts become clearest and militants mold their attitudes. The document emphasizes that these committees are a school where the exercise of criticism and self-criticism, together with acts of exemplarity strengthen the organization and its members.

The Cuban youth committed itself to dignify those who work for the common wellbeing, who produce and contribute…without giving up before the U.S. threats and of those mercenaries who play their game.

In the morning session of the Congress, the delegates approved the Declaration against Lie and Hatred, a document that denounces the campaign unleashed by the mainstream media outlets which spread lies about Cuba.

In this sense, the participants refuted the stances adopted by the European parliament and the United States and wrote in the declaration that the European Union should wonder before announcing such a hypocritical statements why –in spite of shortages, the blow by hurricanes and the genocide which represents the US blockade- the Cuban youth have decided to go forward, debate the problems among Revolutionaries and find solutions that do not imply forgetting the history or giving up.

Likewise, the message of the Cuban Five, direct delegates to this Congress, was made public. In the message, the Cuban antiterrorist fighters expressed their will to continue the battle for truth and justice. “We never did anything for money and always lived modest and humbly”, the message reads.
