While a special program dedicated to “Alta Tension” 17th anniversary was being broadcast, the people were suggesting those key topics that could be on 2011 agenda, a year of crucial changes for the country.
Its 4:00 o'clock; the announcer from Villa Clara’s provincial station has noticed that people’s debate has been opened.
Officials from different fields are ready to answer all people’s concerns and dissatisfactions on the chosen sector or theme. Finally, “Alto Voltaje” has begun. It is a distinguishing radial program in which the worst opinion-as the slogan reads- is that one not expressed.
Abel Falcon Curi and Xiomara Rodriguez Cruz, two young journalists, and Misladis Zamora, a graduate on psychologist, who had been trained at the great world of radio, since she was a child, decided to face the challenge along with an experienced director: Jorge Gomez 17 years ago.
Abel and Xiomara have become experienced and renowned professionals. Misladis, who is now assuming other professional tasks, has become an excellent television presenter and a radio announcer at the central region of the island.
Like it happened that January, nerves use to become strained while starting the theme song and when the phone lines are available to call: Xiomara, Abel and George continue to defending the truth on problems, and looking for the accurate explanation without forgetting any detail, due to the commitment they have with that audience who dials the station every week to listen to a two-hours program, in which any topic can be discussed: transport, water supply, the postal service, the Electricity Company, the quality of bread, that of the streets paving, the environmental problems, gastronomic and recreation offers, health, communal services. Anyway, all those issues of public opinion can be part of that radio project which has been created and has stayed as an example of participation at the radio.
Certainly, not all the problems can be solved, but most issues that have been expressed through population’s concern have been explained by way of communication between the audience and the announcer.
Topics like leader’s responsibility, economic efficiency, the self-employment
among other issues from public arena have been suggested once again by listeners, who feel they have the right to do it, and they have it.
On the occasion of the “Alta Voltaje”17th anniversary, we express our gratitude to this small staff for keeping their commitment and continueing working that way, in which they are reaching locals’ hearts while looking for answers, finding the truth and communicating with that people, who undoubtedly are playing the main role in terms of conquering dreams and hopes in the country. And as a listener would say: they use to criticize mistakes, lies and everything wrong, but they defend the great social project that has changed Cubans’ lives for more than 50 years.
