La Palma, Pinar del Rio.- The settlers of this western municipality will soon receive the signal of Radio Progreso, thanks to a new medium wave-tower, which was turned down after the impact of hurricanes Gustav and Ike in 2008.
Before that date, the regional broadcast center only transmitted signals of provincial radio station Radio Guama and Radio Rebelde which sometimes reached with interference to the listeners, a problem that was solved.
The implemented investment will also enable a high quality reception of Radio Progreso’ signal, said Radio Cuba national director, Justo Moreno,
"We had a conversation with the directors of the Cuban Institute of Radio and Television (ICRT), and the transmission of the signal of Radio Progreso was approved thus extending the coverage and with the existing digital link, the signals are spread with good modulation and adequate reception for listeners”, "he stated.
The equipment of the restored transmission center in La Palma has a modern technology, while the new installed tower ensures a greater wind resistance and greatly improves transmission, said regional director of Radio Cuba in Pinar del Río, Luis Armenteros.
"This tower is fully national built, is about 70 meters high, was erected taking into account the vulnerability of the province to the meteorological phenomena, because the edges of the tubular structure makes it more resistant to high winds," he added.
Armenteros said that from La Palma north coast of Pinar del Rio is covered as well as several Artemisa’s localities, because the tower has increased its coverage and new services were installed to emit the signal through a digital radio link.
