The XII International Congress on Pedagogy (Pedagogia 2011) was opened today in this capital, a new meeting for the unity of educators and 4,000 delegates are present from over twenty countries.
Latin American nations show the largest representation with 3, 000 participants, plus 600 Cuban specialists who will present 2,508 scientific papers.
In order to attain an excellent education for all the people, lectures, workshops, courses and conferences are scheduled until Friday, as it is done every two years to improve pedagogical science professionals’ exchange.
On this occasion discussions will be focused on how to make contributions in a decisive and equal manner for the development of a general and comprehensive culture of the peoples on the basis of the collection of the best educational experiences of the region.
The pre- graduate and post- graduate education, literacy and post-literacy campaigns as well as the formation of values, are among the main issues to be dealt with at the meeting.
Minister of Education, Ena Elsa Velazquez said that the meeting coincides with the 50th anniversary of Cuba’s announcement of illiteracy eradication.
She noted, this date has a special significance for the Cuban people, especially for educators because it marks the beginning of the great transformations which would lead to an unprecedented educational revolution Cuba.
In Pedagogia 2011 website, the minister said this meeting targets the promotion of the integration among Latin American nations in order to exchange experiences and join forces in the interests of making regional conference agreements come true.
The inauguration of the event began today at the Karl Marx Theater with Cuban Minister of Education’s opening speech. Ordinary sessions were summoned at the Havana’s Convention Center.
