Radio- this magic mass media, literally speaking - celebrates its 80th anniversary in the western province of Pinar del Rio. This event turns into a motive for recalling a lot of anecdotes and comments worthy to be published. In my particular case, I had the opportunity to witness the most important changes happened during those eight decades of broadcasting, like radio digitalization, about which I would like to write.
Undoubtedly, the world of new technologies has conquered the radio in all the country; it had a great acceptance from its beginning and was put into practice, when being a part of the modern world became inevitable and necessary.
That is why the analog systems previously used for over half a century were no longer valid giving way to digitalization, multimedia broadcasting, live sound, the Internet ... and it seemed a dream came true. Added to these changes, a really important change showed up: a change of thought.
Radio workers’ empiricism – who used to get ready for the programs down the halls, through personal interchanges and their permanent staying at the recording and broadcasting studios, is not enough today.
Now it is essential to get solid knowledge to face the new technologies, aside from taking into account the professionals’ vocation.
We are living in an era of development, where quality in radio has been substantially improved, the rhythm of broadcasting data has reached high levels, the program is conceived for all kind of listeners, immediacy – feature number one at the radio- is now achieved much easier and thus technicians and professionals’ work is saved .
Professional training for all the radio workers has carried on a par with those changes. Cuba, as an under developed country, needs to be in keeping with other nations regarding the technological evolution identifying the world.
