Raul Castro Heads the Direction of the Communist Party of Cuba Print E-mail

In the closing session of the Sixth Cuban Communist Party Congress attended by the Commander in Chief Fidel Castro, the revolutionary combatant Julio Camacho Aguilera announced that the President and General of the Army Raul Castro had been elected First Secretary of the Party in the meeting.

After proposal had been approved with a widespread applause, Raul explained that the new Political Bureau was composed of fifteen members, unlike the previous one that had 24 members and introduced Jose Ramon Machado Ventura as the Second Secretary of the Cuban Party.

The other members of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba include Ramiro Valdes, Abelardo Colome, Julio Casas, Esteban Lazo, Ricardo Alarcon, Miguel Diaz, Leopoldo Cintra, Ramon Espinosa, Alvaro
López, Salvador Valdes, Mercedes López, Abdel Marino and Jorge Izquierdo.
