A huge march for unity, productivity and efficiency, was held by the Cuban people to mark May Day, now a popular celebration in the main squares of the country, with the presence of general Army Raúl Castro in Santiago’s Antonio Maceo, and first vice president Jose Ramon Machado Ventura, in Havana’s Revolution Square.
Cuba became a mass of men, women and youth, who from their territories demonstrated their support for the Revolution, the agreements of the Sixth Party Congress and the policy requiring labor and economic reorganization as the only way to keep the conquests of socialism.
Many motivations again gathered the Cuban workers in this celebration, Salvador Valdés Mesa, Politburo member and Secretary General of the Cuban Workers Federation (CTC) said in his speech.
Our presence here is a tribute to the fallen in the struggle for independence and homeland defense over several centuries and in particular a tribute to the heroes and heroines who made it possible this year to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Proclamation of the Socialist Character of the revolution and the victory of Playa Girón, stated the union leader.
He referred to the leading role of labor groups in the changes and updates of the economic model, to be more efficient, productive, and rational and we can better meet the needs of all our people. To achieve this we must place in the foreground, work, discipline, thrift, order and the need to overcome our own shortcomings.
The all Cubans, this May, paraded in streets and squares across the country to ratify Socialism as the only option and to refine it and give continuity to unity as the indestructible weapon of our revolution.
In Pinar del Río, the new provinces of Mayabeque and Artemisa Matanzas, Cienfuegos, Camagüey, Villa Clara, Las Tunas, Holguin, Isle of Youth, Granma, Guantanamo and workers waved flags, banners, and showed the will to be worthy followers of the rich Cuban history and the Revolution.
In Ciego de Avila, with the clamor and pride of having achieved sporting success for the first time in the final of Baseball, the national sport, youths, farmers, and education workers confirmed their rejection of the genocidal U.S. blockade and the right to fight more cohesive in the aspiration to improve our economy.
In Santiago de Cuba, the Hero City of the Republic, they marched under the leadership of our President Raul Castro Ruz, who received cries and the desire of the worthy sons of Maceo and Guillermo Moncada, and the heirs of Vilma Espin, to be protagonists in the new battle for unity, productivity and efficiency, and the will to win because social justice is an achievable and possible goal.
