Waldina Fernandez Alavarez, who worked with zeal and professionalism on the switchboard at Radio Habana Cuba station for over 25 years, was given the 50th Anniversary Award at her home, located in Plaza de la Revolucion municipality, in Havana. This distinction is awarded to founders of the station.
Journalist Martinez Pirez, executive secretary of the Commission that gives the “50 aniversario” Award and René Martínez Villavicencio, Technical Director of the station, gave Waldina the distinction, which is 22 millimeters in diameter and is made of aged bronze with the logo of the Cuban radio on the front and coined in high relief. This distinction was given to Radio Habana Cuba station by the Ecuadorean intellectual Marigloria Cornejo.
Waldina Fernandez, who received this recognition with joy and emotion, is going to be 81 years old on July 29th.
50 Aniversario Award of Radio Habana Cuba station - whose opening was officially announced during a speech given by Commander in Chief Fidel Castro on April 16, 1961, has been already given to some other radio professionals such as the engineers Oltuski Enrique, Carlos Estrada and Luis Mir; journalists Ignacio Canel,
Manuela King, the audio technician Armando Rodriguez Pico, and the outstanding Cuban musician César Portillo de la Luz.
