The Cuban Medical Brigade’s staff in Haiti is ready to provide medical assistance to the Haitian people faced with the threat represented by the possible hit of tropical storm Emily on this devastated country.
“Faced with the hurricane warning, our medical staff is absorbed in educational and preventive work, “reports a Gramma newspaper’s reporter from Port au Prince's.
“Taking into account that Emily tropical storm may hit Haiti on Wednesday night, particularly the Capital Port au Prince, a series of measures to protect our personnel and guarantee the Haitian people medical attention have been taken
Head of the Cuban medical mission Dr. Lorenzo Somarriba López, exclusively told Granma newspaper that management centres had been activated at all levels and that the measures established for this stage of the hurricane threat had been taken, particularly those linked to the state of communications between all positions and with the General Coordination Office.
Priority is being given to the control of cholera- said Dr. Somarriba - an endemic in Haiti and can outbreak again due to the heavy rains associated with the storm Emily.
The Cuban doctors had saved 75,478 lives people from cholera until last Monday with no report of deaths over the past 195 days, while a very low mortality rate- 0.36 percent- remains, the Cuban News Agency (AIN) reported.
