“Contar la historia” was the name of the second session of the 33rdTheoretical Workshop of Caracol Award, at the Villena hall of the Cuban Union of Writers and Artist (UNEAC), to analyze the programs of historical content in the Cuban audiovisual media.
The debate was presided over by prestigious journalist and director of Havana Radio Magda Resik; television assistant Tatiana Zayas, movies director and scriptwriter Alejandro Gil and outstanding professor Dr Reinaldo Sanchez, who debated on the importance of the knowledge of Universal and Cuban History.
Tatiana Zayas explained that the lack of concepts on the programs of historic content, the various hours and contents in the programming and the way of presenting the information are the main problems currently affecting the programming on history broadcasted by the Cuban television.
Zayas also stated that the main strength of this type of programs is the coincidence of the interests of the audience and the television. Several studies have shown that viewers prefer programs about the history of Cuba.
Most of the opinions agreed that most these historical programs make emphasis on the latest events of the 19th century to the detriment of the other years, like the events that took place in the 50’s.
Likewise, they called journalist and historians to work closer together in order to present a more reliable information on history and not to underestimate the audience.
