The 66th Session of the UN General Assembly condemned for the twentieth consecutive year the economic, financial and commercial blockade imposed by the US government against Cuba for more than five decades.

During the meeting, the representative of Nicaragua said about the blockade: "No one supports it and it is time for the US government to come to terms with the idea that they will never crush the spirit of the Cuban people and correct their policy."  He also stated that there is no reason to support the blockade and condemned the injustice committed against the four Cuban anti-terrorism fighters who are still unjustly held in U.S. jails.

Likewise, Venezuelan ambassador Jorge Valero said: "In the same way we demand the ending of the blockade against Cuba, we also urge to release these four heroes who are still imprisoned. Their confinement is in sharp contrast to the freedom of terrorist Posada Carriles."

The Venezuelan diplomat reaffirmed one more time his support for the Cuban government when he said "It's time to stop the double standards in the application of international justice. We won’t accept anymore that defenseless people are condemned, just because they can fight back and that the violations committed by the US are tolerated. This is a demand of all the peoples of the world, and the Bolivarian government of Venezuela echoes to it ".

The Chinese delegation described the US economic, financial and commercial blockade as nonsense and demanded the U.S. government to lift this illegal policy and begin working towards establishing regular relations with Cuba.

The Chinese representative Li Bandong noted that his country has always believed that all nations must develop mutual relations of respect for the rights and sovereignty and that the US blockade topples Cuba's efforts to eradicate its poverty.

For the twentieth year, Mexico’s representative expressed his opposition to the blockade and recalled that even though the U.S. government is not supported by the United Nations charter, this sanction undermines the coexistence among Latin American nations since they reject the dialogue and diplomacy as a way to solve their differences. The Mexican representative said that his country will reject the blockade in all forums for it hinders the strengthening of relations of development and cooperation among nations.
