Three Cuban listeners won a contest organized by China Radio International (CRI) on the occasion the 55th anniversary of this station, which broadcasts in Spanish.
According to Xiaotong Ying, deputy director of the Spanish Department of CRI, Cuban Leodanis Zamora Cabrales from the city of Bayamo, in the eastern province of Granma, and Mitzi Espinosa and Adrian de la Caridad from Havana were among the five winners of the Sichuan contest, while Alvaro Muñoz, Yosvanis Leandro Jimenez and Luis Zamora from Bayamo were among the winners of the second and third places respectively, and 11-year-old Klarissa Dairelis won the first place in the children’s contest.
Ying Xiaotong noted that the Bayamo Listeners’ Club was selected as one of the world’s top 10 and its chairman was invited to a clubs’ meeting to be held in China in December. Xiaoong said that one of the goals in the future is to increase the number of listeners via Internet.
Xiaotong said that there are four Spanish speaking listeners’ clubs: three in Cuba and one in Argentina. Cubans listen to the station via short wave, while Argentineans listen to it via Internet.
She added that the club created in the Cuban city of Bayamo in March has rapidly increased its membership.
Xiaotong said that Bayamo locals have created their own logo, an electronic library on the history and culture of China, and have published their first newsletter, which has been well received in their community.
Leodanis Zamora, chair of this club in Bayamo, said that he had heard the good news of the Cubans’ success on the radio, in a program called “Letters from Beijing," and he felt an immense satisfaction because the three first prizes were given to members of his club.
Xiaotong said that China Radio International is working to make the most of the use of the Internet, in order to turn the radio station into an international platform that provides news and information services in several languages, interactive multimedia, and shared audiovisual resources.
