Uruguayan writer Eduardo Galeano presented on January 17th his new book: “Espejos, una historia casi Universal” (Mirrors, an almost universal story) in the Che Guevara hall of the Casa de Las Americas Cultural Center. This was a trascendental event for Cuban culture at the beginning of 2012. Galeano’s speech was broadcast on line by the Cuban radio web site http://radio.icrt.cu.
Galeano, with his great eloquence, talked about many of his works, stories and anecdotes, and also provided – from a Latin American view- his sociological analysis of the historical events of the Latin American and the Caribbean region.
On arriving in Havana, the admired writer stated: Cuba is passing through an exciting period of changes and is still an example of national dignity and solidarity.
Surrounded by intellectuals, artists, journalists, and writers, Eduardo Galeano gave a wide reading with some of his varied books. These included: “Crónicas Latinoamericanas” (Latin American chronicals), “Días y noches de amor y de guerra” (Days and nights of love and war), “La piedra que arde” (The burning stone), “Voces de nuestro tiempo” (Voices of our time), “Memorias Del Fuego trilogía” (Memories of the fire trilogy), “Patas arriba” (Upside down). “La escuela del mundo al revés” (The world school back to front), “Las aventuras de los jóvenes dioses” (The young gods’ adventures) and his new book: “Espejos, una historia casi universal” (Mirrors, an almost universal story).
Eduardo Germán Hughes Galeano was born on September 3rd, 1940, in Monteviedo, Uruguay. His work is riddled with a wide narrative and anecdotal contents, as well as his essays, which have reflected our contemporary society through its history, identity, contradictions, vices and extortions.
