When I write about Martí, I'm working with the purest feeling, he is one of the most worthy men that has been, not only for our country but for America," said the renowned journalist from Villa Clara, Luis Orlando Pantoja, who will receive the "Patria" Award 2012 presented by the José Martí Cultural Society.
This is the first time a Villa Clara journalist has received this award, which takes into account the work done by journalists, media professionals and filmmakers from around the country, which reflect relevant aspects of the life and work of the Apostle, and the social projection of the ethical values of his thinking.
"I like to address morality, shame and the values that we should care for and take into account", said Pantoja, as we affectionately call him in Villa Clara.
He added that many sectors are not sufficiently familiar with the Master, although everything about the national hero is well publicized, and he said:
"But sometimes we want to elevate Marti, beyond what he already is and also popularize him. There are things that one wonders about, for example, why is there no statue of him on horseback, because he died in battle?"
Luis Orlando Pantoja, who has for over five decades been dedicated to the work of a journalist, said the man of The Golden Age has had a great influence on him.
He said that when he was very young he won the Beso de la Patria, not so much for being a good student, but because he drew up a paper on the Apostle and studied hard. "Those are things that Marti has left in me which, in my life, prompted me to know him better," he said.
On Saturday January 21, Pantoja will receive the Patria award, a deserved recognition for this CMHW producer and director of the Cuban Radio in general, a revolutionary and above all a fervent admirer of Jose Marti
