Presidents of Bolivia and Ecuador will attend the Alba (Bolivarian Alternative for the Peoples of Our Americas) Summit on 5 February in Caracas, announced Venezuelan President, Hugo Chavez, who called the regional meeting.
"Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa and Bolivian President Evo Morales have confirmed their attendance at the meeting," said Chavez during his Sunday program "Alo Presidente" broadcast by VTV television state channel
Chavez also announced that some countries of Central American region are requesting to join ALBA, although he did not mention their names. At the summit Venezuela will propose the creation of an economic zone among ALBA member countries.
In 2010, the Sucre (Unitary System of Regional Compensation), a countable unit equivalent the dollar value, was adopted for the member countries.
Promoted by Cuba and Venezuela, the bloc is composed of Ecuador, Bolivia, Nicaragua, Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. A translation by: Silke Paez Carr
