First Conference of the Cuban Communist Party (PCC) wound up two sessions in Havana focused on strengthening the work of the organization and its role related to the updating of the economic model in Cuba. It also approved the report of four commissions created to assess the running and methods of Communist Party, its political and ideological work, among other issues.
Over 800 participants reasserted their commitment to carry out the Guidelines of the Economic and Social Policy, approved at the Sixth Congress of the Cuban Communist Party in April, 2011. They were also in favor of strengthening the national unity of the Party and the Revolution and the links with the masses.
As Cuban radio web site reported, the participants expressed at the Conference the need to carry out creative work and stressed the need of preventing and fighting rigorously any acts of corruption, indiscipline and lawlessness.
During the opening of the meeting the second secretary of the PCC Central Committee Jose Ramon Machado Ventura urged people to try to break the inertia, and the mental and obsolete schemes related to the organization.
To increase the conscious, leading and transforming participation of people in the implemention of the Guidelines of the Economic and Social Policy of the Party and the Revolution, was an essential goal assessed by the delegates at the Conference.
In the discussions carried out by the Commission number two, related to the political and ideological work of the party, the Vice President of the Council of Ministers Jorge Marino Murillo said that the ideological work is crucial in all changes of the Cuban economic model, which ratifies the principle that nobody will be unprotected in our socialist society. He also referred to, as a challenge for the Party, materializing what the people had approved through the political work.
Politburo member Esteban Lazo stressed that the economic battle lies in the political work of the Party, related to the essence of all what was being discussed. "It's about improving the Party's role in the direction of the Revolution, mainly in the economy," said Lazo.
The First Conference of the Communist Party of Cuba wound up in Havana with the speech of the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party Raul Castro, and a call for unity, the strengthening of the political and economic work and the implementation of socio-economic changes in Cuba.
