Under the motto "The University for a sustainable development", the Eighth International Congress on Higher Education will take place in Havana. Over 3,000 delegates from 60 countries- 800 of them Cuban- will attend the meeting.
This motto reasserts the responsibility higher education has to society and its time, while it fosters a space for reflection and discussion with the aim of assessing the contribution of the university towards sustainable development.
The event will take place on February 13-17 at the Convention Center in Havana. The nations most represented will be Mexico, Venezuela, Argentina, Colombia and Brazil. This time Angola joins the event with a delegation of over 100 professors, researchers and students.
The organizing committee also announced that they have scheduled the visit of 250 personalities, including the Brazilian intellectual Frei Betto and Nobel Peace Prize, Adolfo Perez Esquivel.
It was stressed that the high number of professionals that will attend the meeting is due to the prestige and achievements reached by Cuban education as well as the way the university community has planned this Congress in which the debate and deep analysis of current problems will prevail at a high scientific and academic level.
"Universidad 2012" will facilitate the exchanges on teaching, scientific innovation, and the development of quality and accreditation processes in Cuban schools.
Since its first edition in 1998, these forums have been acknowledged as wide and reflective spaces, with a high level of commitment and collectivism which become appropriate spaces for the discussion of many varied topics related to the international agenda of higher education.
