One of the most transcendental moments at the 21st International Book Fair Cuba 2012 was the presentation of the book The Cuban Five. Who are they? Why they have been unjustly sentenced? Why they should be released?. The book includes articles published in the US socialist newspaper "The Militant", which deal with the case of five heroes sentenced in the United States over 13 years ago for fighting terrorism.
Mary Alice Walters, director of the Pathfinder publishing house, was in charge of the presentation in the José Lezama Lima pavilion, at the Fortress of San Carlos de la Cabaña, where the personal exhibition "Aves por la Unidad" (Birds for Unity), by Antonio Guerrero, one of these fighters, for freedom and justice was also shown.
In the presence of the anti-terrorists' relatives and the public, Walters stressed that the book by this prestigious publishing house has the aim of disclosing the violations committed by the U.S. administration regarding this case.
She also referred to the interest of Pathfinder printing an edition in English in the future for the US people, who have barely heard of the Cuban fighters, or have received distorted and incomplete information about the anti-terrorists.
For Argentinean intellectual, Estela Calloni, José Martí Latin American Journalism Award Winner, the International Book Fair Cuba 2012 has been one of the most important cultural events in Latin America.
Calloni, Mexican reporter for the newspaper "La Jornada", stated that the main merit of this meeting, extending to the other Cuban provinces until March 4, is it being designed for the enjoyment of all people and that this kind of event carried out in Cuba, a country passing through very difficult times due to the US blockade, is an example of dignity and revolutionary morals.
