ned US guitarist, record producer and founder of the legendary British band Roxy Music, Phil Manzanera, will play at the opening of the 14th International Havana Cigar Festival from February 27th through March 2nd in Havana.
Manzanera is scheduled to perform during the welcoming concert at Havana's Karl Marx Theater, along with artists such as Cuban singer Augusto Enriquez.
The musician was born in London, but he spent most of his childhood in different parts of the Americas, including Cuba. His earliest musical accomplishments were Cuban folk songs inspired by the Cuban Revolution. As a composer, producer and solo performer, he has worked with many of modern music celebrities, including Steve Winwood, David Gilmour, John Cale, John Wetton and Pink Floyd.
He has played in Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Cuba, Spain, France, Italy and the U.K., including a ten-day European tour with the Cuban band Moncada.
This year's cigar festival in Havana includes the screening of the film Cigars: The Heart and Soul of Cuba, by James Suckling and James Orr. The last day of the event will see a Gala Dinner dedicated to the Romeo y Julieta Havana Cigar brand, and the Traditional Humidor Auction for the benefit of the Cuban Public Health System.
