
Cuban economy grew
The Cuban economy grew 1, 4 percent in 2009 because of the U.S blockade and the impact of the world economic crisis and financial, said Marino Murillo, vice president of Council of Ministers and chief of Economy and Planning.
Murillo stressed that those results are related to the complexity of an external situation, in which the country has had to cope, and also financial deposit of international commitments. He read a document about what concerns the 2009 budget ad the objectives of the Economic and Social Plan for next year before President Raul Castro’s presence.
The Vice President of the Council of Ministers also explained that in this year, has been necessary to keep with the recovery of those damages caused by three hurricanes in 2008. He added that although this 1, 4 percent is lower than the 6 percent of Gross Domestic Product previously planned, sectors such us: agricultural, transport and services, they have exceed their predictions.
Murillo announced that we should keep working on avoiding expenses above incomes, focus on producing foreign currency, and just accept investments that help to this purpose, including their assurance required from the very beginning.
The Fourth Ordinary Session of the National Assembly of the People’s Power has opened with one minute silence in honor to the Commander of Revolution Juan Almeida in the Convention Palace of Havana city.
President of the Cuban Parliament Ricardo Alarcon informed that 550 deputies have attended the Assembly which represents the 89, 59 percent and highlighted the presence of a guest: President of the National Assembly of Democratic Republic of Congo Evaristo, Boshab.
After Ricardo Alarcon’s intervention the deputies discussed about the information provided by Murillo and the resolution of the Commission on Economic Affairs, in charge of Osvaldo Martinez.
