Cuban Revolution leader Fidel Castro exercised his right to vote on Sunday's election to choose the municipal legislative bodies. Polling Stations Opened for Almost 8.5 Million Cubans Shortly after ten oclock, local time, a member of polling station number One of the 13th electoral district in the municipality of Plaza de la Revolucion handed over Fidel's ballot to the president of this electoral table Migdalia García.
As established by law in these cases, the president of the electoral panel opened the closed envelope, took the ballot and placed it in the box, guarded by two school students.
Fidel Castro was the 227 elector among the 346 listed voters in this polling station with the right to vote, electoral official Carmen Llopiz said.
Noncommissioned officer of the Armed Forces Arlety González, age 18, was the first citizen who came out to vote in this polling station. It was also the first time she exercised her right to vote.
Some 30,000 polling stations nationwide opened Sunday for almost 8.5 million Cubans to elect 15,093 delegates among 34,077 candidates to make up the Municipal Assemblies of 169 municipalities.
The second round of elections is set for May 2 in those electoral districts in which none of the candidates obtains more than the 50 percent of the valid votes.
