Government and political authorities from Jinotepe, capital of Carazo, Nicaragua paid tribute to Cuban doctors and technicians of Operation Miracle, who provided medical assistance to this Central American nation.

In a moving act held in the capital city, the political secretary of Carazo and leader of Sandinista Movement Jose Ramon Alvarez and the mayor of Jinotepe,Oscar Tardencia expressed gratitude for the medical assistance provided by Cuban proffessionals to thousands of people who suffers from sight problems , Prensa Latina reported.

In Carazo, there was no hospital for Operation Miracle, so the patients from this town received medical treatment in the ophthalmology center of Ciudad Sandino, in the outskirts of Managua, inaugurated on May 1, 2007. 

Alvarez highlighted that over two thousand people of this had been operated on for diverse sight problems, 

Unlike other communities in Nicaragua, in Caracazo the local government have asssumed the cost of the glasses, and the tribute to Cuban medical brigade was a favorouble moment for the free delivery to more than a hundred patients. 

During the act, the director of the ophthalmology hospital of Ciudad Sandino Mercedes Argote recalled the Operation Miracle services in Nicaragua in the frame of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America(ALBA).

Argote stressed that the objective is to benefit poorer people and is totally free, an important detail because a cataract operations, for instance in private hospitals in Nicaragua it costs the equivalent to 900 dollars. 

Three ophtamology hospitals have been built in Nicaragua for Operation Miracle with about 50 Cuban highly qualified professionals, there is a fourth hospital in the process of construction for this month. 

Up to now , 64,315 Nicaraguan patients had been treated by surgical procedures in these three hospitals, .stated the Cuban doctor,who highlighted that the greater pride of the Cuban Medical Brigade is to restore the vision to people who have been handicapped for many years.
