“There are millions of Cubans citizens who are deeply-rooted in the country, because of the achievements acquired by the homeland, its traditions and values. Young people must not embarrass their selves; Cubans are absolutely right, and we are convinced that this revolution and all its acquired achievements will not be ever destroyed”, Estaban Lazo Hernández said at the mass act held on the occasion of the 55th Anniversary for the release of Fidel Castro and the Mocada Garrison’s attackers, called the famous prison, located in the isle of Youth, Cuba.

Vice-president of the State of Council Esteban Lazo attended the raise area of the monumental complex in the Isle of Youth, which was recently restored, to recall and speak about that event that took place on May 15th, 1955, when some young people, members of the Centenarian Popular Movement, accompanied by Fidel Castro were imprisoned for the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Cespedes Garrisons attacks, in Santiago de Cuba and Granma provinces respectively.

Lazo also recalled how President Raul Castro described that action carried out by those young people, in the year of centenary of Jose Marti’s birth, the Cuban national hero, who was incarcerated, being a teenager, in Isle of Youth, in October, 1870, just for dedicating his life to the independency.

Lazo explained how the Moncada’s attackers were humiliated for they forgot the lesson they had involved at the Garrison; but Batista’s tyranny could never reach its aim, in spite of the extreme conditions of life in prison. The attackers strengthened their will of struggling; and it had never been so productive a group of prisoners’ life.

And Lazo recalled one of those battles won by the Moncada’s attackers, when Fulgencio Batista visited the prison and they sung July 26th March, a proposal of Fidel, after the commander Juan almeida Bosque gave them a signal. The prisoners raised their voices on that song against the tyranny Batista, who could not stand his anger. As a result of that action, Fidel was placed in solitary and Agustin Diaz Cartaya, the author of the lyric, was hit with no mercy.

Fidel’s confinement period has turned into a monument to dignity and decorum, as it is happening nowadays with the case of the Five Cuban who are unfairly imprisoned in the United States, expressed Esteban Lazo.

Press’ role, organization of ideological work, denounces from the model prison, conviction of the peoples’ unity, and conviction of the struggle initiated at the Moncada Garrison, were significant events exposed in that commemorative act.

Declaration known as History will absolve me was written again and organized in that prison”, Lazo recalled. “We represent today a genuine ideal; and more than a physic force, Cubans are an only idea, a symbol, the vice-president stated.

Lazo called the Cuban people, especially isle of Youth’s locals, to face urgent tasks of the revolution, the struggle in favor of a solid economy, imports’ substitution, saving, discipline and reject illegal actions as well as corruption.

The vice president assured that over 55 years, enemies of Cuba have used the same mechanisms to stop rebelliousness actions in favor of Cuba and obstruct its revolution, telling lies about the Cuban reality, by means of a media campaign. But they do not know that the Cuban people rebels with the same strength and faith as that group of Moncada’s combatants that once went out the prison to struggle for the genuine sovereignty.

“We are proud of having a generation that kept firm convictions on the homeland defense; so we urge new generations to follow the same example. We used to struggle for our country, and today, we struggle for the entire world, because we are aware of the Marti’s phrase: Homeland is humanity”, Esteban Lazo expressed.
