The Heberpropt-P a medication produced by Cuban technology for the treatment of diabetic foot ulcer has benefited more 10 000 patients from several nations, explained Director of the Institute of Angiology and Vascular Surgery, Hector Alvarez.
Alvarez highlighted this is the only medication registered for this kind of treatment with a patent in more than of dozen of countries, it also reduces the number of surgical operations and amputation prevention, in most of the cases saving the extremities parts which were maimed.
Alvarez said that some of the countries which have been benefited with the medication are Venezuela, Argentina, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Serbia, Libia, Tunez and Argel; at last it will start a national program by a group of Cuban experts.
Alvarez, who is also the vice president of the organizing committee of the IX Caribbean Congress of Angiology and Vascular Surgery hold at Havana’s Convention Center with the attendance of 20 participants from 20 countries.
The Heberprotp-P is one of the most Cuban relevant scientific results in 2009 concerning biotechnology and medications along with the tetravalent and heptavalent vaccines as well as new Alfa and Gamma interferon medications, monoclonal antibodies and others.
The Heberpropt-P along with other conventional therapies is subscribed to diabetic foot patients, neuropathy and ischemic ulcers and causes the granulation lesions of 100 square centimeters of area.
The lesions of diabetic foot ulcer are considered a worldwide health problem. It will estimate in 2025 three million of people will be suffered from this disease, which is responsible of a high number of deaths and the highest percentage of amputations.
