The Environment World Day has being holding since 1973 internationally. The United Nations General Assembly established that day by Resolution 27. The agreement was stipulated at the headquarters of Stockholm city in December 1972. All nations have taken decision of remembering this day, among them and all together, the need of saving the earth planet from suffering the human kind’s ravages for 37 years.

The word environment in Spanish language has always aroused my curiosity. When translating environment into Spanish, it becomes in two different words that have similar meanings. They are repeated meanings.
To be accurate, I looked for the word in the Royal Academy Dictionary and found, among others, the following meanings:

* ENVIRONMENT: * Collection of circumstances or conditions around people, which have an influence on their personal development and the activities they do.

* ENVIRONMENT: * It is air or atmosphere. It has to do with physical conditions or circumstances, social, economic, of a place, of a meeting of a community
or a time.

Certainly, that word has an only one meaning in Spanish, which referrers to nature. I think this is the reason for which Spanish speakers people are more concerned with natural disasters if compare with those communicating themselves in other languages.

It is lamentable that those are supposed to be the most responsible - not only for environment conservation, but also natural disasters retaining – beyond mentioning
the commemorative day; they ignore the current environment plight the remaining 364 days.  A similar situation happens when mom or dad have birthdays. They are given a gift, a card and a kiss, but they are forgotten by their loved ones the rest of time, as all they need is support and affection every day.

Copenhagen Summit is just an example of the regrettable reality we are living today; however the First World Conference of Peoples on Climate Change and of the Mother Earth Rights called by Bolivian President Evo Morales encourages people form being optimistic and taking some actions in favor of the environment.

What is the current state of the environmental crisis? The current crisis is based on:

The acceleration of soaring temperatures all over the world; the melting layer snow
and the resulting threat of extinction of some species of animals  like polar bears, among others; the increasing of the ozone layer, much droughts in contrast to floods and avalanches; the uncontrolled looting by land and sea  causing sudden movements of the tectonic plates layers, which is the cause of those devastating and repeated earthquakes; the deforestation which leaves the planet without breathing; the increasing of hurricanes by sea surface warming; oil spills like that of the Gulf of Mexico which destroy the native sea flora and fauna and pollute the remain species that will be had by the human beings;  the authorization to continue emitting gas greenhouse effect from large industries and from where loads of arsenic, lead and ammonia are traveling everywhere; constant explosions in those  territories in military conflicts. All of them are part of a large number of genuine regrettable situations which make reach the conclusion that an urgent change in short time is needed; otherwise life on the planet could reach the end. The possible causes would be: gradual extinction of the planet, or its sudden natural destruction from inside, not to take into account the threat of new conflicts ongoing and the possible use of deadly nuclear weapon.

The preservation of environment is being increasingly subjected to industrial capacity of first-world countries. These countries which have big industries and global interests are responsible for the survival and long-term restoration of the planet; though once many species have died out, the damages will be irreversible.

We should trust on people’s sense, sanity and common sense.  They certainly will think of taking actions in favor of the environment mainly taking into nature issue, if you forgive the repetition.
